Winter Paw Protection

This winter there is an abundance of snow for us to get out in and play with our dogs.  Unfortunately winter snow also means our dogs are exposed to the chemicals used to melt ice, as well as oil, salt and sand which can compromise the integrity of their paws. To help protect these precious paws we found a winter paw protection recipe on Planet Paws. The recipe includes beeswax, coconut oil, calendula petals, and avocado oil. Beeswax creates a barrier to help seal moisture into the skin while allowing the skin to breath. This barrier protects against irritants and environmental toxins. Beeswax contains vitamin A which supports hydration and promotes cell regeneration. It also provides anti- inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral benefits.

Coconut oil is known for it's anti microbial properties which help guard against irritants and infection. Beneficial fats in this oil aid healing when there has been an injury. Avocado oil is a great moisturizer because it is easily absorbed by the skin. Studies have shown that calendula based oils and topical ointments help to increase speed of wound healing by increasing blood flow and oxygen to wounds and infected areas. This aids new tissue growth and hydration. Calendula also provides anti microbial and antiviral support for the skin.

We appreciate all our wonderful clients and to insure everyone has fun in the snow, have paw protector gifts available when you pick up meat and bones in January and February.  I look forward to your feedback and experience with it. Next month ask about our prebiotic gummies. Kathy will be busy creating these yummy treats made of beef gelatin, kombucha, and lactose. Lactose feeds the good bacteria in the gut and is recommended by the Westin Price Foundation.
Thank you all for your continued support.

The paw protector works great for my Miniature Schnauzer who gets tons of snow and ice build up between her toes. Because the ingredients are organic, I don’t have to worry about her licking her feet!
